MICRO MEETS MEDICAL RESEARCH.

Children’s Mercy Hospital / Ongoing

Since the Spring of 2017, MICRO has partnered with Dr. Susan Abdel-Rahman, a physician and researcher at Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City, to create a vast body of experimental illustration.

Multiple MICRO classes have taken on the challenge of figuring out how to illustrate complex parental consent forms necessary for global pediatric research. Students create illustration designed to visually relay the complex concepts these text-heavy contracts need to impart. Students consider how to explain procedures like biopsies, or concepts like future use provisions through the use of visual images alone.This study hopes to promote a closer relationship between medical research and use of the visual art.
